Join us in Portugal in 2025! This trip was assembled by Kent and Allison VanArnam after we travelled the country of Portugal leading a previous group trip in May of 2024. Portugal is becoming one of our favorite countries in Europe. We love the people, culture, history, natural beauty and of course the world-class wines of the Douro Valley.  

The Douro Valley and the Douro River

The third-longest river on the Iberian Peninsula, the Douro river flows westward from its origins in north-central Spain then cuts across northern Portugal all the way to the Atlantic coast, where it empties into the Atlantic at Porto. The portion of the river in Portugal forms the heart of the Douro River Valley – one of the oldest wine-producing regions on Earth, an active wine region for nearly 2,000 years. Porto and the Douro River Valley are home of world-famous Port wine. The region is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Trip overview

This trip starts and ends in Porto, Portugal, one of the prettiest cities in Europe. We'll spend 2 nights in Porto and then head into the world-famous wine region of the Douro Valley for 5 more nights. Bring your walking shoes...we'll have the opportunity to walk in wonderful towns, vineyards and in nature. We'll visit amazing wineries, dine in wonderful restaurants and stay in the best hand-selected hotels. 

Like all VanArnam Adventure trips, we have a “leave your wallet at home” approach. Everything is included each day. All dining, wine tastings and excursions.

The cost of the trip is $6,000/ per person, based on double occupancy. The receipt of a deposit of $1,000 will secure your spot. The trip begins in the town of Porto at The Lodge Hotel. This trip does not include airfare.
